Indian Arts Workshops

Fevicryl Hobby Ideas in association with the KalaGhoda Association presents workshops for children from 7 – 14 years on four different Indian Arts such as Warli, Madhubani, Minakari and Lipan.

The Warli paintings are a Tribal Art form of Maharashtra which is painted on the mud walls of the houses of the tribals using stick and rice paste. The figures are made by using simple geometrical shapes like Triangles, Circles and Lines. The Madhubani paintings have their origin from the Madhubani District of Bihar. These types of paintings use figures from the Indian Mythological Characters and are generally done with outline techniques. The Minakari art is from Gujarat and is done on aluminum foil with embossing and enameling technique. The figures depicted through this art form are very decorative. The Lipan art form originates from Rajasthan and is used on the interior walls of the houses. The work is done with the dough made with cow dung and whitening powder, studded with lots of mirror pieces.

Experts in the field of art such as Subhash Awchat, Bina Aziz, Jenny Bhatt, Gurcharan Singh, Vipta Kapadia and Brinda Miller will conduct a small session with the children during the workshops. Through the workshops the children will learn to make handbags, fish pouches, trays, wall clocks, peacock frames, designer mirrors, photo frames and wall frames using the four different Indian Art Forms.

The workshops will be conducted from 22nd to 25th May, 2009 with time slots ranging from 11am – 1pm and 3pm – 5pm.
